A 45-year-old woman is reported to be in good condition after being shot in the back of her head as she was walking in Waianae Thursday afternoon, Honolulu police said.

The incident happened on Farrington HIghway near St. John's Road at about 12:25 p.m., HPD said. She was taken to the hospital in good condition. and is being treated for a non-life-threatening injury, police said.

An assault investigation has been opened, but police are not saying if the shooting was random or targeted.

Earlier, the city Emergency Services Division reported that a woman with a gunshot wound to the back of her head went to a trauma center in serious condition from Waianae Coast Comprehensive Center  this afternoon.

Paramedics, who responded to the scene at about 12:30 p.m., said it appeared the woman in her 40s made her way to the hospital after being shot somewhere else.

The St. John's Road intersection of Farrington Highway is about one mile from the Waianae Comprehensive Center.
