Car rental rates in Honolulu are the third-most expensive in the country, according to a review by CheapCarRental.net.

The site’s survey puts New York City at the top of the rankings with renters paying an average of $72 per day over the past 12 months. New Orleans ranked second, with an average daily rate of $64, and Honolulu visitors paid an average of $63 a day, the study found.

Wash., D.C. rates average at $59, while fifth-ranked Houston’s rate was $56.

The cheapest car rental rate was found in Milwaukee, Wis., at $27 a day.

For the comparison, rates were found via CarTrawler, a car rental comparison engine.
