A 38-year-old Oahu Community Corrections Center escapee was scheduled to make his initial District Court appearance this morning on charges that he allegedly assaulted a man and his ex-girlfriend in Kapolei with an accomplice while on the lam.

Leslie Dabis, 38, was charged with second-degree assault, second-degree escape, and second- and third-degree criminal property damage Sunday. His bail was set at $400,000.

Dabis was arrested Friday night in Kalihi after he and another man entered a Kapolei residence about 8:30 a.m., assaulted a man and woman with a dangerous instrument and forcibly took the woman, police said.

The male victim was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. Police said the female victim was Dabis’ ex-girlfriend.

Dabis had escaped from OCCC on Jan. 14.

The other suspect is an unknown man, in his late 20s or early 30s. He is described as 5 feet 8 inches to 6 feet tall, weighing 160 to 180 pounds, with short afro hair and letters and tribal markings tattooed across his upper back.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call 911.
