The state Department of Land and Natural Resources Friday reopened the Na Pali Coast State Wilderness Park and Kalalau Trail following an assessment Friday morning of the trail’s condition.  The Kalalau trail is open to day hikers and campers with permits.

The park was closed because of dangerous conditions brought on by Wenesday’s heavy rain. That day, fire rescue personnel rescued 12 stranded hikers who had been trapped by a swollen Hanakapiai Stream on the Na Pali Coast.

Division of State Parks reminds the public that even during the nicest day in this wilderness park, weather conditions can suddenly change and hikers must always be alert and prepared to take safety precautions, including sheltering in place and keeping to high ground.
