Kauai police have arrested 37-year-old Justin Wynn Klein, who allegedly threw a Japanese visitor from a cliff on Kauai’s North Shore, following a multi-agency search that lasted nearly four months.
On Saturday afternoon, a tipster alerted police to a possible Klein sighting at Lydgate Beach Park in Kapaa. Officers located and arrested Klein around 5:30 p.m. near the pavilions.
On Dec. 16, Klein, was reportedly seen throwing a 31-year-old woman from a cliff in Kalalau Valley, then fled.
Police, firefighters and officers with the state Department of Land and Natural Resources closed the hiking trail and conducted an unsuccessful four-day sweep of the area. Police continued an island-wide investigation.
The women spent several days in critical condition at Wilcox Hospital and remained hospitalized for over a week before returning to Japan with her family.
In December, a Kauai grand jury returned an indictment on the charge of second-degree attempted murder and Klein’s bail on the warrant was set at $1 million.
His initial court appearance has not yet been scheduled and he remains in police custody.
