Councilman Chang announces he's running for Congress

City Councilman Stanley Chang today announced his candidacy for Congress.

Chang, who represents East Honolulu on the Council, will run for Hawaii’s 1st Congressional District (urban Honolulu).

The current officeholder, Rep. Colleen Hanabusa, is expected to run for U.S. Senate against Democratic incumbent Brian Schatz.

Because Chang’s Council term expires next year, he is giving up that seat at the end of the term in order to run for Congress.

This guy should get some real work experience first. How can someone who hasn't held a long-term job outside of politics really understand how legislation affects the average person's life?

His current term as a legislator is longer than any of his previous jobs. One year at Cades, is hardly long-term, and being a student is not the same as working for a living, even at Harvard.

I would not vote Chang for dog catcher. The same guy who had the gall to appear at the Kahala Neighborhood Board meeting and support the Frankentrain while admitting it will do nothing to reduce traffic congestion. Maroon.

He has never had a real job, has no real life experience and his mother essentially funded his campaign. Honolulu will not elect Stanley Chang to Congress, but thankfully, he'll be resigning his Council seat to run. So, maybe now we can elect someone with talent and experience from East Honolulu to the Council. A few years in the private sector will help Mr. Chang relate better to those whom he so eagerly volunteered to serve ... certainly, he might earn some respect.
