A Hawaii island grandmother and the non-custodial father of a formerly missing 2-year-old Lanai boy, who was found with them, were charged today with custodial interference.

Authorities charged Katherine Ruth Hunter, 53, and her son, Noah Sanchez, 25, both of Pahoa.

Hunter’s bail was set at $2,000. Sanchez’s bail was set at $10,000. Their initial court appearance is set for Thursday, unless they are able to post bail.

Hawaii County police had asked for the public’s help in locating the 2-year-old boy, his paternal grandmother and father.

The child’s 22-year-old mother had given Hunter permission on March 5 to fly him from Lanai to the Big Island to visit with her for five days. Police said Hunter failed to return the child home to his mother.

The child was found unharmed Tuesday afternoon with Hunter and Sanchez in the Leilani Estates subdivision.

Police arrested the pair, and the boy was reunited with his mother Tuesday evening at the Hilo police station.
