Kauai crash sends 2 people to hospital

Two people were hospitalized Thursday morning following a three-car collision on Kaumualii Highway near Knudsen Gap, Kauai police said.

A BMW sedan was traveling east at about 7:20 a.m. when it rear-ended a gray Toyota sedan that was stopped in traffic. The impact caused the Toyota to hit a silver Toyota sedan stopped in front of it.

The 27-year-old female driver of the BMW sustained minor injuries and did not require medical treatment. The 27-year-old female driver of the gray sedan and 63-year-old male driver of the silver sedan were taken to Wilcox Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The eastbound lane of Kaumualii Highway was closed for about an hour. During the closure, police directed one lane of alternating traffic flow. The highway was reopened at aboutd 8:30 a.m.
