Maui fire rescue personnel assisted a pair of hikers who got lost along the Kahakapao Trail above Makawao Monday evening.

The couple, a 51-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman from Tucson, Ariz., called for help after becoming disoriented on the trail around 5:45 p.m..

A helicopter crew was unable to locate the couple due to heavy cloud cover, but a crew on the ground found them and escorted out around 8:20 p.m.

Neither hiker was injured.
