Lahaina beaches reopened following sewage spill

LAST UPDATED: 08:33 a.m. HST, May 08, 2013

Beaches in Lahaina from Mala Wharf to Canoe Beach were reopened this morning after being closed for a day because of a sewer line break, Maui County officials said.

Maui Department of Environmental Management on Tuesday reported that a contractor broke a 20-inch sewer force main around 2 p.m. at a Wahikuli construction site. The break forced the Lahaina 3 pump station to be shut down for repairs which affected all Lahaina residents from Puamana to the Lahaina Civic Center. Repairs were completed at 7:30 p.m.

No sewage spills were reported reaching the ocean, but beaches in Lahaina were closed as a precaution.

So what else is new in Hawaii? Oahu is polluted, staff infections are the order of the day on the Windward side. Flesh eatin bacteria also prevelant on the Windward side, but our politicians are intent on dipping their beeks so the land conversions continue.
