No tsunami from earthquake near Tonga

DENVER >> A 6.5-magnitude earthquake has hit the Pacific island nation of Tonga, but no tsunami warning was issued.

The U.S. Geological Survey's National Earthquake Information Center says the quake hit shortly after 10:46 a.m. Saturday Hawaii time.

The quake struck 218 miles northwest of the capital, Nuku'alofa. It occurred 127 miles below the surface.
