The National Weather Service extended a flood advisory for Hawaii island until 7 p.m. But an earlier advisory for Oahu was lifted.

Forecasters said heavy rain continued to fall on leeward slopes of Hawaii island at 5:42 p.m. rom Upolu Point to Kailua town. The heaviest rain was falling over the leeward slopes of the Kohala Mountains northwest of Waimea.

Water is reported on the roads near the Saddle Road Junction.

Other areas in the advisory include Waikoloa Village, Waikola Beach Resort, Waikii, PUako, Kawaihae and Kamuela.

Heavy rains over parts of Oahu earlier in the day led to a flood advisory for that island for a few hours this afternoon.

The forecast beyond this afternoon calls for weakened winds and the chance of locally heavy showers through mid-week. Trade winds and more settled weather are not expected to return until next weekend.

The National Weather Service says the potential for heavy afternoon and evening showers will linger over the state as a series of disturbances in the atmosphere moves over the islands.

The forecast for Honolulu calls for a  40 to 50 percent chance of rain in the afternoons through Thursday.

The light winds may also allow vog to return to Oahu next week.

A high surf advisory for the south shores of all islands continues through 6 p.m. Sunday, with waves up to 12 feet expected, according to the weather service.
