UH softball team stays alive in regional

After losing to Washington, the University of Hawaii softball team stayed alive in the NCAA tournament with a 3-0 win over Minnesota in an elimination game today in the Seattle regional.
The Rainbow Wahine (45-12) advanced to the regional's final round and will face Washington again on Sunday at 10 a.m. Hawaii time. UH will have to beat the host Huskies (40-15) twice to move on to the NCAA Super Regionals.
UH pitcher Kaia Parnaby took the loss against Washington, then came back to throw a shutout against Minnesota for the second time in the regional. She held the Golden Gophers to three hits, struck out four and walked none in the win.
UH fell into the elimination game with a 2-0 loss to Washington in today's first game at Husky Softball Stadium.
The Wahine, who defeated Minnesota 3-0 on Friday, took the lead in the rematch on Kayla Wartner's two-run triple off the centerfield fence in the top of the third inning. Kelly Majam came around on the triple to break the Big West's single-season record for runs scored with 59.
Leisha Li'ili'i extended the lead to 3-0 with a solo home run in the top of the fourth, her first hit of the regional.
Parnaby held off the Golden Gophers to close out her 13th shutout of the season.
In today's first game, Washington pitcher Kaitlin Inglesby held UH to two hits and the Huskies advanced in the winner's bracket.
Inglesby and Parnaby matched zeroes through five innings before the Huskies broke
through with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Inglesby drew a leadoff walk and Kylee Lahners followed with a double to right center to break the scoreless tie.
Jennie McNeill added an RBI single in the later in the inning to give Inglesby a two-run lead going into the seventh. Ingelsby retired UH in order to send the Huskies to the regional's final round.
Minnesota then survived an elimination game with a 5-0 win over Portland State behind Sara Moulton's one-hitter. Moulton struck out 10 against UH in Minnesota's final game of the season.Click here to download our mobile app for your iOS and Android device.
