The annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk raised a record $1.67 million for Hawaii charities, officials announced.

A total of 14,736 walkers on Oahu, Maui, Hawaii island, Kauai, Lanai and Molokai participated.

The fundraising walk features food booths and entertainment.

The Oahu walk was held Saturday and raised $452,000. It started at Ala Moana Beach Park's McCoy Pavilion and continued for six-miles through Waikiki, along the Ala Wai Canal and back to McCoy Pavilion.

The other islands held their charity walks earlier this month. Maui hotel workers raised the most money, $701,716.

The Visitor Industry Charity Walk is one of the largest fundraisers in the state, officials said. Since its inception in 1978, the Charity Walk has raised over $26.3 million for Hawaii charities.
