The Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet determined the cause of death of a vacationing U.S. Border Patrol agent, who died Sunday attempting to save a woman in a pool beneath Waimea Falls, pending further investigation.
Kris Gungon, 31, of Imperial, Calif., tried to help a woman in the pond beneath the falls. He never resurfaced.
An autopsy was done Monday, but the results will be released later.
Rescuers said his body was found about 25 feet below the surface of the pond at 5:20 p.
Other people in the area rescued the woman, fire Capt. Gary Lum said.
The U.S. Customs and Border Patrol in San Diego said Gungon has been an agent since 2009. He was assigned to the El Centro Patrol Station.
Police have classified the case as an unattended death.
