Prosecutors have charged a 28-year-old Oahu Community Correctional Center escapee with car theft.

Benjamin Pabingwit, who escaped from OCCC May 5, allegedly stole a vehicle 6:59 a.m. Saturday while the 54-year-old owner was inside a store in Waianae.

Patrol officers arrested him 7:15 a.m. Saturday on Hakimo Road and found Pabingwit was also an outstanding OCCC escapee.

He was arrested on suspicion of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, second-degree escape, and charged Saturday night on those offenses.

His bail was set at $25,000.

He was also arrested on a $500 warrant.
