No one was injured and no property was damaged when an 18-inch rock, weighing approximately 150 pounds, rolled down a hillside behind a residence on Kula Kolea Place in Kalihi Monday evening.
According to Department of Land and Natural Resources officials, the rock originated on private land. A private contractor is scheduled to assess the situation on Tuesday morning.
Last year, the state authorized emergency funds for a rockfall mitigation project in the same area after several large boulders rolled down the hill and struck three homes on Kula Kolea Place. The work secured other boulders, also located on private land owned by a local church, that were determined to be in danger of falling.
