LAUREL, Md. >> The father of the girlfriend of Edward Snowden described the leaker of national secrets as a shy and reserved man with convictions, but said he’s “still shocked” by the news about him.

Jonathan Mills stood outside his home in Laurel, Md., this afternoon and told reporters that his daughter, Lindsay,  is holding on amid the national controversy.

Snowden has identified himself as the person who leaked details of a secret National Security Agency surveillance program.

Jonathan Mills says he has texted his daughter, but did not say where she is. He says Lindsay, who moved to Hawaii with Snowden, has dated him for four or five years.

Asked if he had a message for Snowden, Jonathan Mills said, “Just wish him good luck and he’s got my love.”

Snowden fled to Hong Kong in hopes of escaping criminal charges.
