A pick-up truck, weaving on Farrington Highway and speeding, went off the road, crashed into a concrete piling and burst into flames just after midnight Saturday north of Makua Cave near Pray for Sex Beach, police said.
One person died and four teenage girls were in serious condition after the crash.
Witnesses told police that the truck was moving “very erratically” towards Kaena Point State Park before the crash. Several people fled from the vehicle after the crash, including the driver.
But paramedics took the girls, ages 13,14,15 and 16, to the hospital in serious condition.
After firefighters put out the flames, the body of a male victim was discovered in the front seat of the burned truck, a Fire Department spokesman said.
Traffic investigators are still trying to determine the age and identity of the victim.
The victim is the 33rd traffic fatality on Oahu this year, compared to 27 at the same time last year.Click here to download our mobile app for your iOS and Android device.
