Maui fire rescue personnel airlift hiker who broke his ankle

Maui fire rescue personnel assisted a hiker who suffered a broken ankle while hiking in an area below Hana Highway Sunday.

Firefighters from Makawao responded to the 1:57 p.m. call and located the 32-year-old man about two miles below the highway. A helicopter airlifted the man to a landing zone in a nearby pasture, where he was transported to the care of waiting paramedics.
