Honolulu flight to San Francisco turns around after problem

The Federal Aviation Administration says a United Airlines flight bound for San Francisco from Honolulu turned around because of an unspecified electrical problem.

FAA spokesman Ian Gregor said Monday the Boeing 737 airplane landed without incident.

The redeye flight took off from Hawaii on Sunday night just before midnight and was scheduled to land in San Francisco on Monday morning.

Gregor says the FAA is working with United to determine the cause of the problem.

United Airlines spokeswoman Mary Clark says the flight was cancelled because of flight time restrictions on its flight attendants.

Clark says the plane is expected to return to service Monday afternoon.

Clark says the 93 passengers were accommodated on other airlines.

Unless we are to believe a fully FAA qualified aircrew simply "Forgot" how many hours they worked and when the Captain filed the flight plan, failed to count the flight hours as work time. And airlines wonder why they have such a negative image to the traveling public. Clearly United is trying to spin this a thousand ways, all lies. United, either tell the truth or admit incompetent bureaucrats are in charge. Hmmm, well, we already know the answer.

It's unfortunate that United feels the need to hide the truth so as not to compensate their passengers for their delays and lost of time for rebooking to other flights/connections. I didn't catch a flight to SFO until 6:30AM (should have been an 11:15PM flight the night before). I was not compensated in anyway - even though United sent me a link to redeem some kind of "customer appreciation" stuff - the form I filled out couldn't be transmitted. And United took a long time to return our luggage (>1.5 hours) so that we couldn't rebook our flights until early in the morning, around 5AM. Nonetheless, I am grateful that United bit the bullet and turned the plane around because I would much rather be alive, sleepy and agitated, then dead in the Pacific ocean. :)
