KFC to close Kapiolani and Dillingham restaurants

By Star-Advertiser Staff

KFC is closing two restaurants on Oahu, its Kapiolani and Dillingham Boulevard stores, on June 26 and June 30, respectively.

The owner, Kazi Foods, which operates 45 KFC and Burger King restaurants in Hawaii, said it did not renew leases at the two location.

The Kapiolani property, on the corner of Keeaumoku Street, was purchased by Walgreens and will be developed into a new Walgreens store. The Dillingham location lacked adequate access for drive-thru customers, Kazi said.

“We want to consolidate our operating costs and strategically engage our team and resources into our remaining restaurants,” said Hossein Djavadi, Kazi Foods general manager.

No jobs will be lost as a result of the closures. All full- and part-time employees were given the option to relocate to other Kazi restaurants, the company said.

I met Zubir Kazi in 1972, about 0300 hours at the KFC on Hawthorne Blvd. in Inglewood, Los Angeles. He was the night manager. He was defrosting frozen chickens in a garbage can. Our faithful Indian companion done good.

My wife and I couldn't afford a Thanksgiving dinner one year and we did a KFC at the Kapiolani store----fond memories--we fed the scraps to the birds at the Park. I wonder if the Carpenters Union will still picket---they do take up sidewalk space just like the "others"!!!

I give my cardiologist heart doctor my KFC coupons. Then he trades me his Burger King coupons. He told me that I can eat fast foods in moderation.
