Hawaii News Now, comprising CBS and NBC broadcast network affiliates KGMB-TV and KHNL-TV, as well as KFVE-TV, is advising viewers who subscribe to DISH Network satellite service that a possible blackout is a month away.

HNN and DISH have been unable to reach agreement on retransmission consent, contracts for which call for cable and satellite systems to pay broadcast channels to retransmit their programming.

A message on the HNN website says, “Since July 1, 2013 (Monday), we have been working to resolve this matter, but so far have been unable to reach an agreement with DISH Network for the continued carriage of KGMB, KHNL and KFVE. This is particularly disappointing because all the other TV providers in our area have agreements with us and those agreements are fundamentally similar to the one we have been negotiating with DISH Network.”

Identical language can be found on the websites of other stations owned by Alabama-based Raycom Media, which all would be covered under the same retransmission consent agreement.

Should the two companies fail to reach a so-called retrans agreement, KGMB, KHNL and KFVE will be blacked out for DISH subscribers.

A blackout of KHON-TV on Oceanic Time Warner Cable was recently averted when a similar contract dispute was resolved by parent companies LIN Media and Time Warner Cable at nearly the last minute.
