Firefighters from three companies responded to a fire in Aliamanu Wednesday, and brought the blaze under control by 5 p.m.

The brush fire, which started at 3:40 p.m., scorched about two acres next to Red Hill Elementary School, and came as close as 10 feet from a school building.

The fire began on the hillside surrounding the school, and burned toward the school, said fire Capt. Terry Seelig.

No homes or lives were threatened, and no roads were closed due to the blaze, Seelig said.

The brush fire does not appear to be fireworks-related, he said.

The cause remains under investigation.
