SAN LUIS, Ariz. >> Authorities have launched an investigation after a small Arizona city says it was ripped off by scammers posing as concert bookers for the Mexican rock band Mana.

The Yuma Sun reports that San Luis officials say the city was swindled out of $50,000 in 2012 when it wired money to what they thought was a concert booking agency in Mexico.

The money was to pay for the Grammy-award winning Mana to play at the city’s Barrier 2 Bridge conference. But Mana never showed up for the conference.

The supposed booking agency failed to respond to repeated phone calls and emails from the city seeking a refund.

San Luis City Councilors recently voted to formally write off the money as lost funds.

No arrests have been made.
