A 24-year-old man was critically injured Saturday evening when he was struck by a pickup truck while attempting to cross Pali Highway.

According to police, the man, who has a Marine Corps Base Hawaii address, was crossing the Kailua-bound lanes of the highway, near the tunnels, when he was struck by the Kailua-bound truck.

The driver of the truck was not injured.

Police said speed and alcohol do not appear to have factors on the part of the driver. It is not known if alcohol was factor on the part of the pedestrian.

Police noted that the collision happened in darkness because the overhead light was broken.
