After receiving reports of breakage among badly flaking decking boards, Virginia-based Trex Co. is reminding the public of its replacement program.

The program was instituted as part of a 2010 class-action settlement involving severe flaking of Trex wood-alternative decking boards.

The affected boards were manufactured in a plant in Fernley, Nevada between 2002 and 2007 and were distributed in western United States including Hawaii.

Under terms of the settlement, Trex replaces any defective decking boards and provides a portion of the labor payment for the replacement work.
