Surfer seriously injured after hitting head on reef at Kaiser Bowls

A surfer was taken to a trauma center in serious condition Friday after he hit his head on a reef at Kaiser Bowls near the Hilton Hawaiian Village Lagoon, the Emergency Medical Services Division reported.

Ocean Safety rescue personnel brought the man ashore on a personal watercraft about 1 p.m.

According to a witness, the man was about 100 yards out when the incident occurred at the surf spot known as Kaiser Bowls. Surfers helped the patient in for about 50 yards, and then lifeguards on a jet ski transported him to shore.

He was treated by lifeguards and Emergency Medical Services onshore fronting the lagoon, and EMS transported him to a trauma center in serious condition.
