Hawaii Kai skate park hit by surf wax vandalism

Vandals have smeared surf wax all over Hawaii Kai skate park, creating a slippery, dangerous situation for skateboarders.

KHON-TV says a skater reported the vandalism at Kamiloiki’s Skate Park to the city earlier this week.

The city shut down the park on Wednesday to power wash the surface. The park was reopened on Thursday.

Skateboarder Hunter Long says skating on the waxed surface was like hitting black ice while driving.

Officials say this is the first time there’s been a problem with wax vandalism at any of the city’s 11 skate parks.

The city plans to file a police report and will press charges if the vandal is found.

Noisy!? 4 wheels attached to a 2 foot board and rolling around on the ground is hardly noisy! It may be a bit on the dangerous side, but if given the stats from a safety perspective, it would beat out many of our so-called dangerous sports today. Allie, please stop giving us your aspects-they are meaningless.

Yes, let us all ban any sports that generate noise and/or are dangerous! Oops, no sports are left... Taxpayer dollars helped build a relatively safe place for folks to practice the sport of skateboarding--- which IMHO is an awesome athletic enterprise for humans to endeavor in....It is not a crime! I would have preferred the usual "Yikes" out of our perpetually vociferous and wrong headed "allie" on this one!
