Maui firefighters today extinguished two small brush fires in Haiku.
About 10:15 a.m. Friday, firefighters were summoned to a patch of eucalyptus trees off Awalau Road. Fire burned about 50 feet of an 80-foot tree and a 600-square-foot area around the tree.
It was under control by 11:30 a.m. and extinguished at 2:08 p.m.
While fighting the first fire about 12:30 p.m., firefighters noticed smoke about a half mile away at the end of the road. A fire truck broke off from the first fire and went to the second fire, which burned about 200 square feet under some guava trees.
That fire was under control at 1:30 p.m. and was reported extinguished at 3:26 p.m.
No injuries or damages were reported, and the cause of both fires is undetermined. Firefighters reported they found no evidence to connect these two fires.
