Passengers sweat it out in Phoenix during Allegiant Air delay

PHOENIX >> More than 150 passengers were forced to sweat it out on an Allegiant Airlines plane for 2 1/2 hours after a maintenance issue left the aircraft without air conditioning.

KTVK-TV reports passengers had already boarded the plane at Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport on Wednesday when the issue was discovered. The station says passengers were required to stay in their seats in triple-digit temperatures even though the plane was still at the gate.

There were no reports of any injuries to the passengers, and it isn’t immediately clear where the delayed flight was headed.

A call Friday to Las Vegas-based Allegiant for comment wasn’t immediately returned. The airline has said Arizona’s summer heat can increase mechanical issues.

Allegiant offers nonstop service from many small towns around the country to popular destinations in Arizona, Nevada, Florida, Hawaii and elsewhere.

hon2255 is absolutely correct. This IS the worst airline. I know the people who work at the airport whose job is to assign gates to in-coming flights. An Allegiant flight was scheduled to come in this evening but failed to show up. Not even the FAA knew what happened. The people at the point of departure didn't even call Honolulu to say whether the flight was on it's way or cancelled. Stay away from this airline.

Somebody on the airport must have had a portable air-conditioner available? We used them at HNL to cool off hot brakes! Mostly on DC-10s. The units I worked on in the USAF had a plenum that could old a case of our favorite "beverage". Chill.

Sure they do, just that the airline didn't want to pay for it. An extra penny out of their profits is all that matters.

Should change the name of the airline to B.O. Airline.

Lets hope the air conditioner was out and this is not a part of a campaign to implement a saving energy protocol.

I thought Congress passed a Bill of Rights to prevent that kind of nonsense. I was in Vegas yesterday and the 2:00 AM HA Flight was delayed 5 hours, but they let them off the plane! We all got our there before the storm.
