High surf warning covers east-facing shores of Oahu, Kauai, Molokai

A high surf warning is in effect for east-facing shores of Kauai, Oahu and Molokai as Tropical Depression Flossie continues to churn up the sea.

The National Weather Service said surf between 10 to 15 feet are possible until 6 a.m. Tuesday.

"Rough and choppy surf associated with Tropical Depression Flossie will quickly build this evening and then drop off by Tuesday morning," forecasters said.

A high surf advisory for east-facing shores of the Big Island is also in effect, with waves up 12 feet possible.

The high surf can cause strong breaking waves and strong longshore and rip currents.

Honolulu lifeguardsrescued 10 swimmers and took 230 preventative actions at Sandy Beach, and rescued three swimmers and took 100 preventative actions at Makapuu Beach Park by 4 p.m. Monday, a spokeswoman for the Ocean Safety Division said.
