Kauai County officials said this morning say they are getting ready for Flossie, which is now projected to be a tropical depression on Tuesday when it reaches the area.

The islands of Kauai and Niihau was placed under a tropical storm warning this morning, joining the rest of the state. The warning means tropical storm conditions are expected within the next 36 hours.

“We are taking all necessary preparations for the weather being forecasted by NWS,” said Kauai’s Managing Director Gary Heu.

The Civil Air Patrol conducted fly-overs along the Na Pali coast Sunday afternoon, warning campers and hikers that Kauai was in a tropical storm watch, and another fly-over is scheduled for this morning, county officials said.

They advise the public to monitor local media and the NWS website for the most current information on Tropical Storm Flossie: http://www.prh.noaa.gov/hnl/. Emergency preparedness information can be accessed at: www.kauai.gov/civildefense.
