LAST UPDATED: 2:11 a.m. HST, Aug 1, 2013

Honolulu fire investigators could not determine exactly how a fire that injured a 63-year-old Kaneohe woman started and have classified the cause as “undetermined.”

Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. Terry Seelig said the July 25 fire began in a second floor bedroom and cause $220,000 in damage to the two-story home.

A 63-year-old Kaneohe woman was injured battling the 2 a.m. fire at 44-111 Kalenakai Place near Kaneohe Bay. Paramedics took her to the hospital in serious condition with non-life threatening burns following the two-alarm fire, which 35 firefighters brought under control in 17 minutes. The fire was reported at 1:54 a.m.

A guest in the home — a woman in her 60s — escaped without any injuries. She was sleeping on the first floor when the fire broke out.

The undetermined classification means that the fire investigator analyzed all possible causes of the fire, but there is insufficient information to identify any one specific cause and there is insufficient information to eliminate some or all other possible causes. The case is now closed, but can be reopened if there is new information.
