Honolulu’s Michelle Wie shot a 2-under 70 today in the second round of the Women’s British Open at The Old Course in St. Andrew’s, Scotland, to draw even for the tournament at 144.

Wie went from a tie for 104th after opening with a 74 to a tie for 50th. The Punahou School graduate still trails 36-hole leader Na Yeon Choi of South Korea by 10 shots. She fired back-to-back rounds of 67 and leads the LPGA Tour major event by one over Japan’s Miki Saiki (66—135).

After holing a staggering 37 putts on Thursday, Wie needed only 30 today. The Stanford alumnae had four birdies over her opening nine holes to make the turn at 2 under for the tournament, but carded three bogeys and only one birdie on the back to drift down the leaderboard. Wie found 13 of 16 fairways and hit 14 of 18 greens. She is striking the ball better, but is still struggling on the short grass.
