Medical examiner: Stabbing suspect commits suicide in prison

A 48-year-old homeless man who was accused of fatally stabbing another homeless man at a Kailua park, died at Oahu Community Correctional Center.

The Medical Examiner’s Office said Brian Kim, 48, died Saturday from asphyxia due to hanging and his manner of death is suicide.

Kim suffered from paranoid schizophrenia, the Medical Examiner’s Office said.

Department of Public Safety officials said he was alone in a cell when he was found.

The stabbing occurred July 12 at Kailua District Park.
