A 46-year-old Pearl City man who allegedly tried stealing items from a parked car at a Pearl City area business Wednesday was stopped by a woman in the back seat.

Police said the man allegedly entered the car about 3 p.m. and tried to steal items from inside when the woman confronted him.

The man walked away without taking anything, and the break-in was reported to police.

Responding officers found the suspect nearby at Kamehameha Highway and McGrew Loop and arrested him on suspicion of first-degree unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle.

Terrible. I still remember back in the 1960s in Hawaii when we never had to lock our car. What happened? Maybe we need to bring back the school prayer?

We had only screen doors keep the mosquitoes, cockroaches, and lizards out in the 20/40's. Nowadays, you need double bolt locks and surveilance cameras. We could play in the school grounds, there were no fences and everyone rspected each others' property rights. Of course not much cars, so we walked everywhere.

Need harsher penalties. Like lopping off a digit every time he or she is caught stealing.
