Police arrested and charged a 23-year-old man with burglary after he was caught sleeping in the residence he had allegedly burglarized.

Police said a female occupant of the Kapahulu residence returned home early Thursday morning to find the suspect, Mathew Taufasau, asleep in the residence. She alerted two other people, a man and a woman. The man then confronted the Taufasau, causing Taufasau to flee the scene.

After the suspect left, the second woman realized that property from the home was missing.

The victims saw the suspect near the residence a short time later and called police. The man who had earlier confronted the suspect gave chase and was able to detain the suspect until police arrived.

Taufasau was charged today with first-degree burglary. His bail was set at $15,000.
