An 81-year-old man who died Sunday after he was found unresponsive in waters off Makua Beach on Kauai has been identified as Leo Bennett of Colorado Springs, Colo.

At 11:07 a.m., Bennett was snorkeling in calm waters off the beach also known as Tunnels before he was spotted face down, unresponsive in the water. Bystanders pulled him out of the water and to shore where they performed CPR.

Lifeguards and fire rescue arrived. Bennett was transported to Wilcox Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

An autopsy will be performed Thursday to determine the cause of death.
