Announcement may come Sunday on UH-Colorado game

By Ferd Lewis

LAST UPDATED: 11:42 a.m. HST, Sep 20, 2013

The University of Hawaii will likely wait until Sunday to announce whether it will accept an offer to add a football game at Colorado, athletic director Ben Jay said today.

Jay is in Reno, where UH plays Nevada Saturday in the Mountain West Conference opener for both schools.

The game will be shown at 2:05 p.m. (Hawaii Time) on pay-per-view.

"We're evaluating the situation," Jay said of the prospective Oct. 19 game in Boulder. "There are a lot of factors we're considering."

Heavy flooding in the state forced Colorado to cancel its Sept. 14 home game with Fresno State. Since CU and Fresno State have been unable to arrange to reschedule the contest, the Buffaloes have approached several schools, including UH, about filling the slot.

Both UH and CU have open dates on Oct 19.

UH has 12 games schedule but may add a 13th game. CU, which will play 11 games unless a substitute for Fresno State is found, stands to miss out on a multi-million dollar home payday and put its bowl chances at increased risk.

That’s easier said then done. The way UH is playing and the amassing injuries, I say make Colorado come here to Aloha Stadium if they want to play us. The Warriors’ health can’t afford another road game in high altitude.

After you run all the numbers I doubt it would be worth it for UH to play an extra road game. From what I've read earlier, UH may barely turn a profit on the game and a 7th road game might be too taxing on the players. If it was a 3 hour bus ride to the game it would be okay but not a 7 hour flight (assuming direct) and bus ride. Part of the challeneges of having a sports program in the middle of the ocean.

We're evaluating it? In a microcosm HSB would never have taken over HA if Gannett took THAT long to evaluate the situation. Come on Ben I hear it is The Chinese Style to go ALL IN when playing poker.

"Bowl chances at increased risk!" Looks like Colorado is counting this game as a guaranteed win against the Rainbow Warriors! Who wouldn't!

Colorado's chances are pretty slim in the PAC12. They'll be in the cellar along with Washinton State. Not even close to going bowling!
