LAST UPDATED: 08:15 a.m. HST, Sep 20, 2013

Honolulu firefighters were able to contain a brush fire that burned to within 100 feet of homes in Maili early this morning.

The fire started at about 4:06 a.m. About 45 firefighters, eight engines and 3 tankers battled the blaze until it was contained at about 5:48 a.m., said Fire Capt. Terry Seelig, a Fire Department spokesman.

Firefighters were able to stop the flames before it damaged homes, Seelig said.

Residents whose homes were threatened by the fire were evacuated to Maili Beach Park, police said. But the Red Cross did not open an official center.

Seelig said firefighters will be mopping up hot spots in the area for the next few hours.

Here, all I need is the minimum wage, no I TOLD U SO, and if u guys FIRE ME, it would be better than collecting unemployment. Here's the deal, some may need to know where Maili is. For me I know, because several times I had taken home a friend to his home near The Waianae Store, which is way out there in the boondocks.

Speaking of which, the newspaper dispenser at McDonald's Kapolei West, the one near your printing plant has run out of newspapers. Do u guys hire good people, or do u guys just hire off the street bums? Omg for a newspaper dispenser to run out of paper is the same as a toilet running out of TP. I bet some use your paper for TP laff my u know what off !!!

Here's the deal again: This is a dammmn Welfare State and all the UNIONS are causing it. For one, we have the priciest Real Estate that investors are willing to overpay for, then rent out to minimum wage people that they pack into their mini hotels and make a bundle off.

If Hawaii was to follow the model of either Texas or Florida, we would STOP our State Income Tax collections and collect taxes the preferable way, collect them at the store, when we buy stuff for consumption. More we buy, more we pay taxes, hence, this method limits consumption.

Then again Hawaii has found the golden goose that lays the golden egg for eternity: collect State Income Taxes, which are among the HIGHEST IN THE NATION if not the highest, noting Cali and NY and they also have an excise tax that they use OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN !!!! In another example of double taxation, when retailers buy their soft drinks from a big box store, they have to pay the bottle fee. Then the retailer charges the consumer when said consumer purchase that 79 cent 12 oz soft drink. The five cents is sent to the State twice for one aluminum can !!!!!!!!!
