Hawaii surfer Carissa Moore advanced to the quarterfinals of the Roxy Pro France Tuesday in her quest to regain the Association of Surfing Professionals Women's World Tour Championship title.

Moore is ranked number 1 after her win at the US Open of Surfing in July.  If she wins the Roxy Pro France and if Tyler Wright, currently number 2, fails to advance out of the quarterfinals, Moore would win the world championship title.

That could happen Wednesday, surf permitting.

After the Roxy Pro France, the final ASP women's tour event is the EDP Cascais Girls Pro in Portugal next week.

Australia's Wright beat Hawaii surfers Malia Manuel and Coco Ho to advance to the quarterfinals in 3-to 4-foot surf at Le Penon in Seignosse, France.

"It feels really good to make it through that heat, it was actually very hard I was up against local favorite Pauline Ado (France) and she definitely caught the best waves in that heat," Moore, 21, said in a news release from the ASP. "I'm just stoked I was able to make the best of what I got."

"Carissa smashed her heat as usual and in the heats before that Sally and Steph were going at it as well, it was super entertaining to sit on the beach and watch," Wright, 19, said.

Sally Fitzgibbons, 22,  advanced over fellow Australian, and defending event champion Stephanie Gilmore, 25.

Courtney Conlogue, 21, claimed the last spot in the quarterfinals, defeating fellow Californians Lakey Peterson, 18, and Sage Erickson, 22. Conlogue is ranked third in the world title quest.

Moore won the world championship in 2011 at age 18,  the youngest person to win the title.
