This weather radar image taken this morning shows rain showers being blown over the islands by the east and northeast trade winds.

Trade wind showers seen this morning are expected to continue into Friday.

National Weather Service forecasters say the showers are more likely in windward and mauka areas, but could drift over leeward sections.

Some of the showers may be heavy at times.

The forecast for Honolulu calls for a 70 percent chance of rain through Thursday night with partly sunny or mostly cloudy skies.

Forecasters say unstable atmospheric conditions caused by two passing weather systems are to blame.
