Brush fire chars a quarter acre in Kahului

Maui fire officials said the cause of a brush fire in Kahului near Kmart and Ballard Family Mortuary was undetermined.

Firefighters took nearly five hours to put out the blaze that jumped from an area near Kmart across Hana Highway to the mortuary,

They received the alarm at 12:31 p.m. Saturday.

The fire burned a total of about a fourth of an acre and caused no monetary damage or injuries.
