Hawaii senior Emily Hartong, who led the Rainbow Wahine to road wins over Long Beach State and UC Irvine last week, Monday was named the Big West Volleyball Player of the Week for the third time this season. The All-American outside hitter led Hawaii in kills, digs and hitting percentage as the Wahine remained unbeaten in conference play at 4-0. She posted back-to-back double-doubles in the sweep of the 49ers and the four-setter against the Anteaters, extending UH's winning streak against Big West opponents to 22 straight.

Hartong had 14 kills and 11 digs while hitting .414 (14-2-29) against Long Beach State Friday. On Saturday, she had her fifth match with 20 or more kills, finishing with 25 against UCI , adding 11 digs for her eighth double-double this season. She also hit .488 (25-4-43) clip and was in on five blocks. Hartong leads the Big West in total kills (259) and kills per set (4.62), while ranking No. 8 in hitting percentage (.308).

I'm sure Em will do whatever she has to do to get Wahine team to final four, but this year she seems to have more support from mates/sisters, too. Do want best for 7 seniors who form the core of this team, they've all kept the focus on end goal and not been distracted by small distractions or missteps/mistakes along the way. Em might get spotlight but team, too, is stepping up big time. Senior night is going to be so huge and emotional this year - end of era and dawn of an era and beginning of the final push for this 2013 Wahine team. Don't see them losing in BW but will need all hands/hearts on deck for NCAAs. Go Wahine! You lift us up, make us proud, fill us with Aloha by your spirit and example.
