Hawaii moves up to No. 5 in women’s volleyball poll

The Hawaii women’s volleyball team, riding a 13-match winning streak, moved up a spot to No. 5 in the AVCA Coaches Top 25 Division I poll announced today.

The Rainbow Wahine (15-1) received four first-place votes, one more than last week’s poll.

The top five teams all moved up one place, beginning with new No. 1 USC (14-1, 47 votes). Behind the Women of Troy are Florida (15-1, 6 votes), Texas (10-2, 2 votes), Penn State (12-2) and Hawaii.

Last week’s No. 1 Washington (11-1) fell to No. 6 after being upset by unranked Colorado in Bolder, Colo., the Huskies’ first loss of the year. Michigan State (15-1, 1 vote) jumped two spots to No. 7 followed by Stanford (10-3), Nebraska (11-2) and North Carolina (15-0). 

The Wahine (4-0 Big West) host UC Santa Barbara Friday and Cal Poly Saturday at the Stan Sheriff Center.
