Three traffic accidents and rain on the Likelike Highway caused a major traffic jam Thursday morning for commuters, closing all Kaneohe-bound traffic going through the Wilson Tunnel for nearly two hours.

Capt. Tyler Chan, Honolulu Fire Department spokesman, said the first incident occurred at 7 a.m. on the Kaneohe side of the Wilson Tunnel when a vehicle flipped after colliding with a pole.

A car trying to avoid the vehicle clipped another vehicle, Chan said.

The third accident occurred on the Honolulu side of the tunnel.

Both Kaneohe-bound lanes on the Likelike Highway were closed by police just after 8 a.m. and reopened at 9:43 a.m. All traffic was diverted to Nalanieha Street in Kalihi.

There was no immediate report of injuries.

DOT should put a message board on Ola St. overpass so drivers coming in at Middle St. merge can go straight to Pali instead of taking Likelike offramp then have to turn around at Kula Kolea where HPD blocked off traffic. This is not the first time cars had to turn around because of accident on Likelike Hwy.

Depends on the station and not always accurate. I do agree that drivers really need to obey the posted speed limit - don't drive slow in the left lane and no need to SPEED. Conditions have gotten worse over the years.

As we can see, DOT has other things to do then to advise motorists of road conditions. Remember some time ago when DOT admitted to the news they had bought and installed the wrong signs for roads going to H3, only say Open or Closed, and are left on Open even when a major accidents closes down the H3. DOT just likes watching them stuck in traffic because the warning signs either are not designed to give information drivers need, or DOT employees do not know how to use them. Either way, DOT just doesn't get it. They need to work for drivers, not sit back and laugh at them. Time to clean house at DOT, get rid of all the dead wood.

Traffic alerts on the radio, LIVE? No way, kusotare'. After scheduled music/advertisement/chatter and face-to-face w/the mess, then "BTW, there seems to be a fender-bender at so-so area but we will confirm so standby." Dreamer!
