Louise Kim McCoy, who has served as Gov. Neil Abercrombie's communications director and press secretary since November, is leaving the post.

McCoy said her last day in the office is the end of this month. She will take unused vacation until formally leaving the post by the end of the year.

McCoy said she and her husband, Jim McCoy, a public-relations specialist, are moving to the Pacific Northwest. The couple's daughter graduated from the University of Oregon and a son is now attending the University of Washington.

"This is something that we've been actively thinking about and planning for awhile," McCoy said.

McCoy, a former press secretary for Honolulu Mayor Peter Carlisle and a former television reporter, is Abercrombie's second press secretary and third communications director since he took office in December 2010.

Last I checked, we live in the United States of America that holds liberty as one of the highest values. Liberty means people are free to make choices in their life. Are you asking why we have liberty?

Its the economy and high cost of living in hawaii. She figures her kids have no chance of jobs here and is moving to be closer to them.

She hasn't even been on the job for a year and has enough vacation to carry her from November to the end of the year? Government employee benefits are FAR too generous. Where could she get that in the private sector?

Or ... she just didn't take much vacation.

So you'd prefer to work in the private sector? Flipping burgers? Or as a communication director and press secretary for a top-level executive, where your vacation benefits and salary would be far better than those for a comparable job in the government sector?
