Weather Service cancels afternoon flood advisory for Windward Oahu

By Star-Advertiser staff

LAST UPDATED: 05:32 p.m. HST, Oct 17, 2013

The National Weather Service has canceled a flood advisory for Oahu this afternoon.

The advisory, which had been set to expire at 6:30 p.m., was canceled about 4:30 as the heavy rains that pelted Windward Oahu dissipated.

The weather service said that Waikane, Punaluu, Kaaawa and Kahana were hit by the heavy afternoon rain.

Forecasters said the unsettled weather conditions that have brought scattered afternoon hours throughout this week "will continue into Saturday, before drier northwesterly flow is expected to arrive late Saturday through Sunday."

Rains can be very heavy on the Windward side. Storm surges from the ocean too can close the coastal highway.
