Court rejects Obama citizenship challenge by GOP Senate candidate

By Associated Press

LAST UPDATED: 03:14 a.m. HST, Oct 19, 2013

President Barack Obama spoke at the White House yesterday about his decision to release a copy of his birth certificate issued by the state of Hawaii in an effort to quell doubts about his birthplace. "We've got enormous challenges ahead of us. We're not going to be able to solve our problems if we get distracted by sideshows and carnival barkers," the president said.

MONTPELIER, Vt. >> The Vermont Supreme Court has rejected a claim by a former Republican U.S. Senate candidate from Vermont that President Barack Obama's name should not have been placed on last year's Vermont ballot because he is not a "natural-born citizen" of the United States.

H. Brooke Paige had made the claim based on what he said were legal treatises and other writings from around the time of the U.S. Constitution. Obama is a U.S. citizen by virtue of his birth in Hawaii. His father, Barack Obama Sr., was born in Kenya.

Paige, who lost in last year's Republican U.S. Senate primary, sought a court order barring Secretary of State Jim Condos from putting Obama's name on the ballot.

He lost in the Superior Court and now at the state Supreme Court.

What party first - National Socialist? I'm guessing you didn't graduate from public school or private, since you don't know the difference between "lead" and "led." Probably couldn't get a job, either - union or oherwise. Unlesst the job description includes learning how to saw "Do you want fries with that?"

thepartyfirst, it's funny that you make fun of public school educated people when you spelled the word "led" as "lead." It is unclear whether you misspelled it because you mistook the noun lead (see the periodic table) with the verb led, or mistook the tense -- lead, which is in the present tense, with led, which is in the past tense. I am a Hawaii public school graduate from kindergarten through my bachelor's degree from UH Manoa (I went to private school for the first time when I attended a private mainland university for my graduate degree) and I'm proud of being a product of the Hawaii public school system!

Question n my mind is not whether he is a US citizen but whether he applied for college and law school as a foreign student. If Obama has nothing to hide, why does he not have the colleges release the information in his applications?

hanalei395, good point about President Obama being the President who brought justice to the terrorist bin Laden. Bush had about 7 yrs and he did nothing to brong bin Laden to justice. Could it be that junior Bush laid off Osama bin Laden because Bush's daddy, senior Bush, was up to his eyeballs in business making tons of money off the bin Laden family?

Im not an Obama fan at all. But enough is enough. People need to get a grip. Its bad enough the republican representatives (a party which I am a member of) are a bunch of idiots falling apart, but to keep up this charade is ridiculous. Still it will never turn me into a left wing liberal.

kailua000: We all know that the GOP party are a bunch of idiots especially when a member of that party, through his admission claims them to be. I would disown these idiots and claim never turn into a left wing liberal, so why not be an Independent as I am. It's quite easy to make your own decisions by not listening to those idiots or left wing liberals and choosing the right person or issue regardless of what party they represent. Take for example, Ted Cruz is an idiot, wanting all the attention from the media and yet as idiot, doesn't take any responsibility for the shutdown and blames everything on Obama. People in Texas need to get this idiot out of office.

The media wants you to believe that Ted Cruz is an idiot. Don't be a stooge for them. Anybody on the Right with a different opinion and is a rising star for the Right, the media immediately begins to discredit and destroy. The Left is afraid of anybody using their own brains and decide for themselves who is worthy of office or service in an elected capacity. More and more the media is unqualified when reporting issues of political nature.
